How the symposium went...
Symposium went a lot better than I expected it to be. I really thought it was going to be awkward and that no one would really be interested in my topic. I was also a little nervous that a lot of people did the same topic as me but it all worked out only a few people did a topic about nutrition and business but if they did it was a different subtopic of Dietetics. I found one girl from Wakeland, Ashley, who also studied a similar topic but her study was based on nutrition. She was absolutely amazing and was very welcoming and it made the beginning of the symposium feel a lot less stressful and awkward. I got to meet a few of her friends as well as learn why she choose her topic. She chose nutrition because of more personal reasons with her having a restrictive diet she wanted to see how certain foods affect our body. She mainly focused on those with health problems and how the GI tract is involved. She was also very interested in my study and my original work, because she has a very restrictive diet it is hard for her to enjoy certain foods such as sweets that many other people can have. It was nice to talk to someone who had a similar passion and viewpoint in diet culture and nutrition. Sharing my work and explaining my studies in ISM to other people was also a lot more rewarding than I expected. Some people were not so interested but the people who were, really made my night. I remember one person saying that he could see the passion in me and that I am going to be very successful and I literally was speechless. I did not really know what to say because I was not expecting such a nice comment like that or for a random stranger to see that in me. I did forget to invite my mentor which I wish I did. Hopefully, for our final presentation, I will be able to get a chance to do so.
I am content with how the symposium went. A lot of people were interested in my original work and it made me really happy that others were willing to try out the recipes that I worked so hard on. Symposium was overall a great experience and I loved seeing everyone's topics and being able to get a chance to share with others what I have learned.
